  7. This README describes an OS/2 device driver (MITFX001.ADD) for the
  8. Mitsumi CD-ROM drives.  The device driver supports the new
  9. FX series of Mitsumi drives: the single speed CRMC-FX001 and the
  10. double-speed CRMC-FX001D.  The device driver also supports the
  11. older Mitsumi CRMC-LU005.
  12.  
  13. This device driver does not support the older Mitsumi CRMC-LU002
  14. CD-ROM drive (also known as the Tandy CDR-1000 or BSR-6800).

  17. Supported Features
  18. ------------------
  19. The OS/2 Mitsumi CD-ROM device driver (MITFX001.ADD) supports the
  20. following features:
  21.  
  22.   * Reads data from CD-ROM discs conforming to the High Sierra/ISO-9660
  23.     file formats.
  24.  
  25.   * Plays audio from standard audio CDs or mixed mode CD-ROM discs
  26.     containing both data and audio
  27.  
  28.   * Multisession photo CD
  29.  
  30.   * Reads data from Mode 2 Form 1 or Mode 2 Form 2 sector formats
  31.  
  32.   * MMPM/2 Software Motion Video
  33.  
  34.   * MMPM/2 CD Audio Player
  35.  
  36.   * Software lock, unlock and eject (Models FX001 and FX001D only)
  37.  
  38.   * Data transfer via software polling or interrupts
  39.

  41. THIS CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER IS DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH THE OS/2 2.1 PRODUCT
  42. AND IS GOVERNED BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE OS/2 PROGRAM LICENSE

  53. Before starting the installation procedure, you should unzip the
  54. files included in the MITFX.ZIP file and copy them to a diskette.
  55. The diskette you created will be referred to as the "Mitsumi CD-ROM Device
  56. Driver Diskette" in the following installation instructions.
  57.  
  58. The following files are included in the MITFX.ZIP file:
  59.  
  60.    MITFX001.ADD  - OS/2 device driver for Mitsumi FX001, FX001D, LU005
  61.    MITFX001.DDP  - Mitsumi device driver installation profile
  62.    README.MIT    - This README file.

  66. Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already installed on your fixed disk
  67. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  68.  
  69. 1. Run the Device Driver installation program
  70.  
  71.    a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  72.    b. Open the System Setup folder.
  73.    c. Open Device Driver Install.
  74.    d. Insert the "Mitsumi CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette"
  75.    e. Select Install
  76.    f. Select the device driver to install from the list
  77.    g. Select OK.
  78.  
  79.    (Note: You do not need to reboot OS/2 before starting step 2 below).

  81. 2. After the Device Driver Installation is complete, you must run
  82.    Selective Install to install the files for the OS/2 CD-ROM Device
  83.    Manager and OS/2 CD-ROM File System.
  84.  
  85.    a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  86.    b. Open the System Setup folder.
  87.    c. Open Selective Install
  88.    d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  89.    e. Select OK
  90.    f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  91.       select the choice OTHER
  92.    g. Select OK
  93.    h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  94.       screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  95.    i. Select Install
  96.    j. When prompted to do so, insert the numbered installation diskettes
  97.       or installation CD-ROM from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  100. 3. If you have changed the base I/O port address on your CD-ROM
  101.    host adapter card from the default value of 300, you must edit
  102.    your CONFIG.SYS file and add the /P:nnn parameter on the
  103.    BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD statement in your CONFIG.SYS file.  Refer to
  104.    the "Mitsumi Device Driver Parameters" section below.

  107. 4. Shut down and restart your system
  108.

  112. Installation from the CD-ROM version of OS/2 2.1
  113. ------------------------------------------------
  114.  
  115. 1.  Make a copy of the OS/2 2.1 diskette labeled "Diskette 1"
  116.  
  117. 2.  Copy the file MITFX001.ADD from the "Mitsumi CD-ROM Device Driver
  118.     Diskette" to the root directory on the copy of the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1.
  119.  
  120.     (Note: If there is not enough room on the copy of OS/2 2.1
  121.      Diskette 1, then delete the file IBM2SCSI.ADD.  If you delete
  122.      IBM2SCSI.ADD, you must also edit the CONFIG.SYS file and delete
  123.      the line BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD)

  125. 3.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file located on the copy of Diskette 1.
  126.     At the end of the file, add the following statement.
  127.  
  128.        BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD  /P:nnn
  129.  
  130.           where "/P:nnn" is the base I/O port address selected on the
  131.           CD-ROM host interface card.  The default base I/O port address
  132.           for the Mitsumi interface card is 300, so the statement would
  133.           appear as follows if the card is set to address 300:

  136.        BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD  /P:300
  137.  
  138.  
  139. 4.  Begin the installation by inserting the Installation Diskette
  140.     into drive A and restarting the system.  When prompted to insert
  141.     Diskette 1, insert the copy that you modifed.
  142.  
  143. 5.  When the System Configuration screen is displayed during installation,
  144.     the CD-ROM Device Support field will display "None".  Do not modify
  145.     the choice and continue with the installation.
  146.  
  147. 6.  After installation is complete, and you have rebooted your system,
  148.     you will not be able to access your CD-ROM drive.  This is due
  149.     to a defect in the OS/2 2.1 install program.  To access your
  150.     CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps:
  151.  
  152.     a. Copy the following files from the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1
  153.        to the drive which OS/2 was installed.
  154.        (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  155.  
  156.        COPY A:OS2CDROM.DMD C:\OS2
  157.        COPY A:CDFS.IFS     C:\OS2
  158.  
  159.     b. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on drive which OS/2 was installed
  160.        and add the following statements to the end of the file:
  161.        (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  162.  
  163.        DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  164.        IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  165.  
  166.     c. Shut down and reboot the system
  167.  
  168.  
  169. 7.  You will need to run Selective Install to copy over some remaining
  170.     system files.
  171.  
  172.     a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  173.     b. Open the System Setup folder.
  174.     c. Open Selective Install
  175.     d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  176.     e. Select OK
  177.     f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  178.        select the choice OTHER
  179.     g. Select OK
  180.     h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  181.        screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  182.     i. Select Install

  188. Installation from the diskette version of OS/2 2.1

  191. 1. Install the OS/2 2.1 product from the diskettes
  192.  
  193. 2. Go to the section above titled "Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already
  194.    installed on your fixed disk".

  200. | Mitsumi Device Driver Parameters |
  201. ------------------------------------

  203. This section lists the parameters which are supported for the
  204. Mitsumi CD-ROM device driver.  The parameters can be changed by modifying
  205. the BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD line in config.sys.  It is recommended
  206. to change the transfer mode from it default, software polling transfer,
  207. to software interrupt transfer.  This will help lower the CPU utilization
  208. of CD-ROM applications, enabling better performance for other tasks
  209. while the CD-ROM drive is being accessed.  See the /I parameter below.

  212. For the MITFX001.ADD device driver, the syntax for the line in config.sys
  213. is as follows:
  214.  
  215.    BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD [/P:nnn] [I:nn] [/V]
  216.

  218.    [/P:nnn]
  219.  
  220.      Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card.  This must be
  221.      the same number as specified by the DIP switch on the interface card.
  222.

  226.      Specifies the interrupt request (IRQ) channel number.  This must
  227.      match the value specified on the jumper setting on the interface
  228.      card.  If this parameter is not specified, the device driver will
  229.      use software polling transfer.

  234.      The device driver will display the device driver revision level
  235.      and CD-ROM product information at boot time.

  238. For example, if the host adapter is configured for a base I/O port
  239. address of 0x310 and an IRQ channel of 10, the line in config.sys should
  240. appear as follows:

  251. 1. If you are not able to access the CD-ROM drive:
  252.  
  253.  
  254.    a.  Add the /V parameter switch to the BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD statement
  255.        in your CONFIG.SYS file.  For example:
  256.  
  257.           BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD /P:300 /V
  258.  
  259.  
  260.        After rebooting, the device driver will display the list of
  261.        drives it has identified.   For example:
  262.  
  263.          IBM OS/2 MITFX001.ADD 0.11
  264.          MITSUMI CD-ROM LU005S M14    Port:0300  IRQ:Polled

  267.        If no units were detected, the following message is displayed:
  268.  
  269.          IBM OS/2 MITFX001.ADD
  270.          No units detected.

  273.        If no units were detected, see step 1b below.

  278.    b.  Make sure the Base I/O Port Address specified by the /P parameter
  279.        in the config.sys file matches the Base Port Address selected
  280.        with the DIP switch on the interface card.
  281.  
  282.        The default Base I/O Port Address for the Mitsumi interface card is
  283.        address 0x0300.  If you have changed the Base I/O Port Address on
  284.        the card, you must change the /P parameter on the BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD
  285.        statement in config.sys.
  286.  
  287.        For example, if you changed the Base I/O Port Address to 0x0310, the
  288.        statement in config.sys should be as follows:
  289.  
  290.            BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD /P:310
  291.  
  292.  
  293.    c.  Make sure all the required files to operate the CD-ROM drive have
  294.        been installed.  You should have the appropriate BASEDEV=
  295.        statement in CONFIG.SYS for your CD-ROM device driver.  You
  296.        should also have the following statements for the CD-ROM system
  297.        files in your config.sys:

  300.           DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  301.           IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  302.           DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS

  306.        If you do not have the above statements in your config.sys, you
  307.        must use the OS/2 2.1 Selective Install to install the CD-ROM
  308.        support files.
  309.  
  310.  
  311.  
  312. 2. If the performance of background OS/2 tasks seems slow when the CD-ROM
  313.    drive is accessed.  Or, if the performance of the MMPM/2 Software Motion
  314.    Video clips seems slow or jerky.
  315.  
  316.    a.  The MITFX001.ADD device driver should be run using the Software
  317.        Interrupt transfer option to enable the best performance in OS/2.
  318.        The IRQ (interrupt request) channel assigned by the jumper on the
  319.        interface card must match the the interrupt channel specified using
  320.        the /I parameter on the BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD statement in config.sys.
  321.        You must assign an IRQ channel that is not being used by any other
  322.        interface cards on your computer.

  324.        For example, to enable the Software Interrupt transfer option for
  325.        IRQ channel 10 (which is the default IRQ for the card), the
  326.        statement in config.sys should be as follows:

  328.           BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD  /P:300  /I:10
  329.

  331. 3.  If the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive under OS/2 is
  332.     different than the drive letter assigned under DOS.
  333.  
  334.     The CD-ROM drive is assigned the next available drive
  335.     letter after drive letters have been assigned for the
  336.     floppy drives and fixed disk drives.
  337.  
  338.     The drive letter is also assigned after any installable block
  339.     device drivers which are located in config.sys before the
  340.     DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD statement (i.e. DEVICE=C:\OS2\VDISK.SYS).
  341.  
  342.     There is currently no mechanism in OS/2 for assigning a specific
  343.     drive letter for the CD-ROM drive.  The drive letter assignment
  344.     under DOS can be controlled by using the /L switch on MSCDEX.EXE
  345.     command line.

  357.   CD-ROM Firmware Level:
  358.   Device Driver Transfer Mode:  Software Polling or Interrupt driven
  359.   Host CPU type and speed:      (i.e.  25MZ 486)
  360.   First letter of CD-ROM drive serial number:  For LU005 models, this should
  361.         be either B, C or D.

  364. The CD-ROM product ID and firmware level can be displayed at
  365. boot time by adding the /V switch to the BASEDEV=MITFX001.ADD line
  366. in config.sys.  For example, the following line may be displayed at boot
  367. time after the OS/2 logo screen is displayed:

  373. The firmware level in the example above is M14.
